Agents and authors are invited to send projects to Erewhon Books according to these submissions guidelines. We are primarily considering novel-length works in any speculative fiction genre including science fiction, fantasy, horror, and other subgenres, but we're also open to other works of interest to the community of SF&F readers.
Most of our list will be new novel-length fiction (40,000+ words), adult or upper YA (young adult with adult crossover potential). We will also look at translated works, comic books/graphic novels, drama with speculative elements, and non-fiction and anthologies of interest to the community. Authors submitting their own work should only send completed projects—no unfinished works or pitches. Agents may inquire before sending pitches when a full manuscript is not available.
We tend to prefer books with unique and well-formed prose, on the literary end of the spectrum but with clear commercial appeal. We especially like works that fall between genres—something that’s hard to categorize is more likely to win us over than a standard-issue epic/quest fantasy, and we appreciate veins of weirdness or dark humor. We don't expect to publish much romance or erotica, but will consider it if exemplary in other ways.
Erewhon Books does not discriminate. We are especially interested in publishing authors from underrepresented backgrounds (including but not limited to race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status/class, age, mental or physical ability, or religion), books with underrepresented characters and settings, and works of feminist, queer, or sociopolitical interest.
We are only accepting digital submissions. Submissions should be sent to submissions (at) erewhonbooks (dot) com. The subject line of your email should start with the text "SUBMISSION:" and include the name of the author(s) and the title of the book. Please include a brief list of notable prior publications and a one-page synopsis of the book in the body of your email, and send your full manuscript as an attachment. We are not picky about manuscript format, but prefer to receive files in *.doc, *.rtf, or *.docx format (in that order). Please only send us one project to look at at a time, but simultaneous submissions are okay as long as you inform us if there’s another offer.
